This is a very popular palm due to its majestic appearance and unique cement gray trunk. The other variety is the Cuban Royal Palm, roystonea regia. However, the common variety sold in nurseries is the Cuban first brought to Florida in the 1930's

Both the Florida and Cuban royals are considered native now and both can be seen growing in the wild.

Rated at 50-70 feet for the Cuban and 80 feet for the Florida variety, these tall palms can easily dwarf a home lot

They should be used with plenty of space available and look best around larger homes and commercial settings. Often used as avenue trees such as in Palm Beach on Royal Palm Way right off the bridge

Not fussy about soil, moderately thirsty but can handle very wet conditions growing wild in cypress swamps. Your Royal Palm can, therefore, handle periodic flooding. Royal Palm prefers full sun conditions. Grows best with proper fertilization
