Above is the classic look of a ficus hedge homeowners think of; neat, compact, fully-leaved, clean-looking.

In a few years, without diligent pruning and trimming, this hedge will get out of hand and look like this. Worse yet, each individual plant in this hedge row actually wants to be this grown up tree. And, oh the ROOTS
